Lance Joseph Newcom
Lance is his new name. It doesn’t have any history in our family. It was simply a name that was mentioned once and both Ryan and I felt like fit him perfectly. We asked him what he thought about it and he loved it. So, just like that, he became Lance. Joseph is both my father’s name but also Ryan’s grandfather’s name.
Lance is 11 years old and in 5th grade. He is my “gamer”. He would be on an electronic device 24/7 if we let him. (Ryan tells me it’s not that big of a deal because he played tons of video games as a kid and look at him now.)
He like sports, but after this past fall baseball season, I’m not sure if he’ll be doing any more organized sports. He likes to play them around the house but he realized doesn’t like playing them on a team. That practices. And has games.
Unlike his older brother, he doesn’t care too much about his clothes. Except that he hates jeans. Which is funny to me because he moved in with 10 pairs of jeans and no other type of pants….not sure what he wore last year.
Lance loves music. Especially the drums. He can’t join band until next year but in the mean time he is constantly beating on something with his hands to make a beat. He has taken over X’s drum set (that she doesn’t use anymore even though she’s still in band) and he bangs away on that drum till we’re all ready to pull our hair out. If he is playing games on his iPad he always has music playing at the same time. His favorite is For King & Country.
Lance’s words come as a feast or famine. Some days he has so much to say (sometimes good or sometimes bad) and other times he is as quiet as a mouse. One thing he is known for is asking the same question over and over again even if you gave the answer already. He loves confirmation and certainty.
He is letting his hair grow long, something he has always wanted.
His laugh is contagious. He is quick to give hugs. And he has a super creative mind.
Love this boy!
