My ONE WORD for 2018 is Glory. I believe it is the only fitting word to follow Transform in 2017. When God transforms something or someone it is for His glory!
In 2 Corinthians 3:18, Paul writes:
We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at the glory of the Lord and are now being transformed into the same image from glory to glory.
My One Year Bible’s commentary last year explained how the veils must be removed if we are to be transformed. Veils of dishonesty, hypocrisy, pride, immorality and such, must be taken down in order for the Lord to come in and transform. And what are we transformed into? The image of Christ!!
The wonder of that transformation can only be explained by one word: glory.
Lord, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws; our heart’s desire is to glorify your name.
In everything in 2018, I want obey in order to glorify the Lord’s name. Everything I accomplish, overcome, and learn is for His glory to be revealed through me. This is my heart’s desire.
I love how 2 Corinthians 4: 15-18 encompasses everything about what it looks and feels like to live like this:
All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.
For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.
Raising teenagers is hard, raising adopted children is hard, working outside the home is hard, working a second job diligently enough to overtake the first job is hard. But these are light and momentary troubles. Because I am intent on keeping my eyes fixed on Jesus, I have so much joy, blessing, and glory for the One who called me to it all.
This will be our 2018: Glory.
